An uplifting story about a former race horse who helps people in a unique way, both young and old, A Horse Named Special is for everyone who has faced challenges. The book explores the ways that service horses can help restore confidence and strength to those attempting to overcome adversity.
The author invited the public (as she did with her books, Purrsnikitty and The Winner Is. . .) to submit photos of their own horses for consideration as the book’s title character. Three horses were used in the book’s illustrations, submitted by entrants from New Hampshire to California. To learn more about the important work that services horses do, Brodsky visited with Upreach Therapeutic Riding Center and Wings and Hooves in her home state of New Hampshire.
